Indian origin couple becomes oldest British couple

An Indian origin couple, both aged 100, has achieved a unique and special feat as this week with their 88th wedding anniversary they became Britain’s oldest living couple.

Kartari and Karam Chand who originally hail from Punjab, got hitched on 11th December 1925 in an arrange marriage. The couple celebrated their 101st and 108th Birthdays last month. And they are presently waiting to hear from the Guinness World Records to know that whether they have been married for the longest time in the history.

The couple has a pretty big family eight children, 27 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. The age, in which marriages are crumbling even before emerging from their honeymoon period, the achievement of this couple suddenly appears to be momentous.

Their family seemed very happy with their achievement. The couple’s son Paul Chand who runs the castle pub in Bradford, is planning to throw a big party to celebrate his parent’s extraordinary feat.

“I am always very proud of my mum and dad and know that we are very lucky to have them,” Paul said.

“We always said we will keep our mum and dad stress free so they don’t have to worry about anything at all and that is exactly what we do. They looked after us all for so long so now it is our time to look after them.”
